I decided to become a personal tutor at the start of this year in order to up my income and so that I could teach more of the higher scheme of work. It is a great work to earn some extra money alongside my regular teaching hours and improve your subject knowledge. Today I am going to outline how to become a tutor and the best way to start.
It is really easy to think about what you are going to do if a student is misbehaving in your lesson but what about if they are doing brilliantly or have dramatically improved. It is really important that we make sure we are also rewarding good behaviour, in fact this is probably more important than reprimanding the poor behaviour. As Benjamin Franklin once said "a spoonful of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vinegar."
Today in international women's day and this year's theme is #pressforprogress. Each year there is a different goal that is focused on and it is then worked on throughout the whole year. Press for progress is about pushing to remove the gender gap and getting a more balanced representation of women in leadership roles. This morning in form time I will be playing one of the videos that can be found on the International Women's Day website to open up a discussion about the issues raised.

Today I wanted to post about online tutoring including the positives and negatives about becoming an online tutor and some of the equipment that you will need to get started. You don't need to decide to do face to face or online you can do a mixture of both it is mainly based on what your students are looking for and the time you have available.
Today is World Book Day and I have a snow day so I can't go into school in fancy dress as I had originally planned so I decided that I would write a blog post about it instead. For those of you who don't know World Book Day is celebrated once a year with an aim of encouraging young people to read more. Each year schools receive £1 book tokens for every child that they can use to either by a £1 book or put towards a young persons fiction book at £2.50, these are full novels. Go over to the World Book Day website for the full list of books but some of the titles include Mr Men, Paddington and a Nadiya baking book.
